Five Kisses

by Saeed Alnuaimi

The kiss that brought me to life; my dad always told me the story of how my mom kissed me on the forehead as soon as I came out of her even though I was full of blood. She kissed me because she thought I was going to die since the umbilical cord was wrapped around my neck. She felt blessed and was so happy that I made it out that she did not care that I was dirty and covered with blood.

The kiss of education; I remember how excited my mom was for me because I was starting school. She got me the uniform and she even got me tie even though it was not required but she thought it was cute. Right before I went she gave me a kiss on the cheek and told me that my life is starting now and I should make her proud.

The kiss of hope; middle school was a tough time for me, my grades were really bad, and I had family problems. At the end of the school year in the 8th grade, I failed my maths course and I had to do a redo on my exam. All summer I would just study for the math’s exam and when it finally came I started getting nervous I did not want to go. My mom came to me and kissed me on the forehead and told me that there is no shame in failing and if it doesn’t go as you want it’s okay life's that way and you have to deal with it. Everybody has their weaknesses and it’s okay.

The kiss of motivation; high school, my mom came to me with the news that I passed my make up exam and I was going to high school. She kissed me again and told me that this year will be a good year. That motivated to get better grades and do better for my mom.

The kiss of a new life; at my graduation I saw my mom crying the whole time. She couldn’t stop her tears. As soon as the ceremony finished the first thing I did was go to my mom and kiss her on the forehead and told her that everything will be okay and that I am always here and I won't ever leave her.
