What are dreams?

“AHHH”, I woke up in middle of the night, sweaty, warm, with a hard breath. I looked around my room but did not see anything. My room was black, only the moonlight was shining through the blinds. My furniture was darker than the whole room. I was scared and pulled my blanket over my face. My head was exploding. There were so many thoughts running in my head. My breath calmed down after a few minutes. I still felt my heart beaten as fast as it has never beaten before. I wanted it to stop. I wanted to sleep. I realized that I did not move for so long, I was just lying in my bed as small as I can. The blanket covered all of me except for my eyes. My room was still dark because I was too scared to go out of my bed to turn on the light. I was lying there for about 30 minutes till I decided to try to sleep again. But before I looked on my alarm it said: 0:00, a cold chill was running down my back. “Ghost Hour”, I tried not to think about it. But there was no way for me to sleep this night, absolutely not. The alarm showed 2:30 now and I did not do anything, I was still lying there. The moonlight was still shining in my room, nothing changed, only my feeling and fears were calm down a little bit. Soon I felt so comfortable in my room that I went to light switch, turned on the light, grabbed my laptop, ran to my bed and covered my body with my blanket. This whole action took me maybe 30 seconds, thats how scared I was. I inspected my whole room with the lights turned on “I am safe, I am safe, there is nothing, nothing to be scared about”, I was thinking, to make myself feel comfortable. After I was sure no one was in my room, I turned on my computer and surfed in the internet. I did what I usually did on my computer, check facebook, instagram, the sports news but no one was online, of course it was in the middle on the night, in the middle of the week. I got bored really quick so I searched for some sick images of towns, football players, shoes whatever I wanted. But this activity got tiring really quick. I was looking for the time: 2:45, I felt bored there was nothing to do in middle of the night and I could not sleep although I was really tired and sometimes my eyes just closed but as soon as they were closed I saw this terrifying face in front of me I was dreaming of. Then I had an idea I wanted to know what dreams actually are, why I am dreaming of something so horrible. So I went on google and searched what dreams are. Dreams happen in our brain. When we are asleep our brain is still working and produces wired stories we sometimes do not understand. You can dream about an animal in the rain forest and all of the sudden you are with your friends in your hometown. In the deepest stage of sleep, R.E.M.,  your dreams are more abundant and better remembered than in any other phase. During this time your eyes are moving quickly and your heart and your breath become inconsistently. In this stage your dreams are most exciting and dramatic. Sometimes as I did you woke up during that phase, with a hard breath, a beating heart and sweaty. In the R.E.M. stage your skeletal muscles occurs so you do not act your dreams out actively. I was impressed how complex the whole dream thing actually is and felt more comfortable about what I am dreaming and how all this happen so I went to bed again and fell asleep. But after 20 minutes my alarm was ringing and I had to go to school.
